What exactly is the problem?

Are you connecting wirelessly or with a cable? If wirelessly have you tried a cable?

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 19:14

we can't get it to do either at the moment!!

We put in all the numbers, and then it asks for the WP2key - again we've put in what it says but it doesn't work.

Have since tried cable and it can't connect using that either.

Do you mean the WEP or WPA key?

Trying to use the cable will cut any problems with the wireless network out of the way so try using that first and once that's going switch to using a cable.

What exactly are the errors saying when you use the cable?

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 19:19

Dh putting dc to bed will be back soon - from memory it says system error Hmm

I hate technology

I "think" the system errors usually come with a number, that could help in tracking down the problem.

Give the troubleshooting guide linked here a go and see what results you get:

Even with the wire it can't connect - something to do with the mac filters but how do we know what the mac address is for the xbox?????

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 31/10/2010 19:39

OK what exactly does it say about MAC filters?

Your network can be locked down to only let particular devices, identified by their MAC address, connect to it. However I don't think that a wired network does that, though it might.

The link above doesn't seem to work so try the troubleshooting guide here with the network cable plugged in:
www.hupitgaming.com/forum/16-computertechnical-help/199837-xbox-360-network-troubleshooting-guide-to-try-and-fix-it

How far down the lists of tests does it get?

Does it give an IP address (something like 123.456.789.123)?

BadgersPaws · 31/10/2010 19:41

Oh and to get the MAC address follow the instructions here:
www.technipages.com/xbox-360-find-mac-address.html

That is the wired MAC address but I believe the wireless connection shares the same one.

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 19:47

Tried a different port and got it to work via the bable

VIRGIN MEDIA won't let me manually add the mac address so it stays there????

Can't use the virgin media information whilst the xbox is on???

Why oh why is it all so complicate Confused

Already screamed at the kids to go to bed as we're so stressed!

Have turned it all off and going to try again......

OP posts:
CarGirl · 31/10/2010 19:49

okay we are now working on wireless - have no clue how.

Next to see if it works upstairs!

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 31/10/2010 19:54

So everything is fine with the cable?

I think that Virgin used to stop you adding new MAC addresses to your wireless network but I thought that that had stopped.

Why can't you use "Virgin Media Information"? I'm not familiar with that.

When you give us an error message please give us as much information as you, every little bit will help someone on here track down what your problem is and get you going.

CarGirl · 31/10/2010 19:58

okay the wireless is working downstairs - hurrah but not upstairs presumably the wireless signal isn't strong enough.

Thank you so much for caring enough to try and help.

Although now it seems every time he wants to play on line it will have to be downstairs so we needed have bothered with the stress of wireless in the first place, and breathe Hmm
