That's it really.
Will it be easy to set up?
What apps to get?
anything I need to know about syncing it with my pc and itunes, etc?
Does my internet surfing time come out of my free minutes or is that just for phone calls?

will it be the bestist gadget-based decision I've ever made? Grin

Just play with it. That's the best tip. Setting up is dead easy, plug it into the computer, iTunes will open up and take you through it.

Any package you have, be it contract or pay as you go, there will be an allocation of internet time. And obviously wifi that you may have at home is free..apart from the pact that you pay bt or virgin or whatever, obviously! :o

It is undoubtedly the bestist bestist gadget based decision you have ever made :o

Are you familiar with iPods? If so you will have no problems whatsoever.
I adore my iPhone, I use it so much I have to charge it every night.
Do you have wifi? If so set your iPhone up to your wifi and then you're not using your providers allowance etc... I'm with Orange and have free Internet access with 3G (within reason) but 3G is slow and my home wifi is super fast!
Favourite apps are BBC News, Facebook, OK magazine, Sky News, Sky Sports, Angry Birds, Home Routines, Cut the Rope gosh... I haveloads, I can't list them all!

Rycie · 26/10/2010 13:57

I love love love my iphone. Congrats, it will change your life. Seriously.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 26/10/2010 13:59

Will it be easy to set it up with my home wifi? I'm on orange like you Guaca. Do you need to alter the setting each time you are in/out of the house to change from wifi to 3G?

Oh yes, it is brilliant. I got one 4 weeks ago and it just blows my mind!

Rockbat has it right - just play with it, it's very intuitive.

My suggestion would be to get a thing that plays it through your radio in the car and charges it at the same time, cos as Guacamole says you will need to charge it every night because you just use it all the time!

Enjoy!

Piffpaffpoff · 26/10/2010 14:05

You need to know the network key/password for your home wifi to enable you to access it. We had to go hunting round the files for that for a while...! When you are out, if there is wifi in the vicinity, it will show you what's available, otherwise will just go straight to 3G.

I was worried I had overused the 3g internet access during my first month as I felt like I was on it all the time - turned out I had used about 1% of what I was allowed Grin.

Guacamole · 26/10/2010 14:06

Nope... The first time you use it search for available wifi and yours should appear, enter your wifi password and from then on, whenever you are in the vicinity of your wifi it will automatically link to it, when you're not it will go to 3G. When I'm at my Muns my iPhone uses her wifi, so you can set up more than one. If you are also a BT customer you can subscribe to BT Fon which means you can use their available wifi when you are not at home, have a look at the BT Fon app (or it might be openzone?).
If you are on Orange, make sure you track your usage (minutes wise and free texts wise) by downloading the Orange App. Always link to your wifi when downloading bigger things (podcasts) it's faster and won't annoy Orange!

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 26/10/2010 14:59

brilliant advice

where do I find the network key? is it the long code on the bt hub?

Guacamole · 26/10/2010 16:06

Yep!

RockBat · 26/10/2010 16:43

And don't download Angry Birds. You will never get your life back :o

MrsSnaplegs · 26/10/2010 17:01

Phew thought it was just me who had to charge it every night! If you have problems sleeping or want a good relaxation programme try Pzziz thro iTunes - fab system! Are you pregnant? If so there is a contraction monitor! Kindle if you read a lot is also fab for the tube.

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 26/10/2010 23:09

Kindle is my bestest app.

Whatsapp is great if friends have iphones or blackberries as you can txt free. Even abroad, if on wifi.

Dropbox is good for transferring files and photos to pc and iPad.

Scrabble and Solitaire.

Collins dictionary French/English

Skype, Facebook apps.

Don't get addicted. I'm not addicted. I can quit any time aaannnyyyytime I want.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 26/10/2010 23:43

I am on my iPhone now in bed. It only arrived this morning. I was petrified of it at first but luckily for me it is idiot proof. I have had it less than 24 hours and already is the best thing ever.
I can see me using it for loads of things loads of cool apps.
Internet is so easy it automatically tells you what wifi is available when you connect wherever you are.
Just spend loads of time playing with it and have fun...I am definitely loving it so far.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 27/10/2010 20:41

It's here!!!

and it's beautiful...

but I'm a bit scared of it. Blush

For starters I've already run into a problem with my phone book contacts. In that they're not there. They seem to be all stuck in my old phone but it won't let me bluetooth them across. My old phone recognises the iPhone but the iPhone won't let it connect and send the address book over.

Talking Tom

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 27/10/2010 20:46

I had the same problem and not figured it out yet. All mine were saved on my sim but couldn't see them in iphione.

VeeBee3 · 27/10/2010 21:45

I had to transfer my contacts across manually (type each one out individually!!) as the guy in the orange store said that the iPhones bluetooth is only for pairing with headsets etc not for data transfer. Hopefully someone will be along with info on another way to do it.

Happy playing, i'm so pleased i got one as it is the light of my life very good and i wouldn't be without it! (ooh and agree angry birds is a fantastic terrible terrible game!Grin)

Odelay · 27/10/2010 21:52

i took mine into the phone shop and the guy there did some magic to get me contacts on it. i loooove it - hopelessly addicted

Rycie · 28/10/2010 13:46

oneof, you need to go into your settings and manually import your contacts from your sim.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 28/10/2010 17:15

so I've manually transferred all my contacts

and then I found out I couldn't choose a good song for my ringtone, but that's ok I spose - there are ways round this, although it involves some time sat at the puter.

and it's all very pretty and everything...

...er,... but what's all the fuss about ??

am i missing something?
please enlighten me. convince me!
