HTC desire - transferring contacts?

Does anyone know if there's an easy way of transferring contact numbers across from my old sim to my new HTC Desire?

There's got to be an easier way than re-inputting everything!!

You can import them straight from your sim - but when I did that the format was all wrong - name order etc so I started again by exporting my contacts to outlook on my laptop and importing from outlook to my Desire - worked much better and I have the backup on the lappy too.

What network are you on? I uploaded mine to O2, exported them into an excel file, and then imported into Outlook, then sync'd the phone. (I couldn't put my old sim into the HTC as it was the wrong size)

I can't at the moment (in the midle of dinner) but if you look at your book on O2 (you have to log on) there are good step by step instructions on there (follow them to the letter though)
