My laptop suddenly started playing music from nowhere!!! Why???

I was just browsing on a reputable news website when suddenly jazzy music started playing quite loudly, there was no other websites open, no links open to something else, nothing. It was not an advert. Why would it do this? Is my laptop bugged?!

I just switched the off button without closing down properly (I know this isn't really a good response but I think that if I suddenly close it down any "bug" won't have chance to take hold Blush stupid I know).

Prior to this I was looking at chinese gender prediction chart websites and one of them closed with an error message. Could it be linked ie could that have been a dodgy website? (although it was listed in google and didn't look dodgy). How can I tell if there's a problem? I have Avast free protection. Used to have Norton (paid £45) but when my laptop broke last year the rubbish computer "expert" just wiped everything then put it back on again, minus the Norton, which he said I'd need to get my password for, which I did, and he said he'd loaded it back on but the icon never reappeared. So I got Avast.

Any advice gratefully received!

If the problem happens again, then you may have some type of virus, however with the new Internet Explorer 9 out, a few sites are trying to be clever and update things and so are some advertising sites.

The sound may have infact just been the website that had bugged or something.

If this happens again, please close down your browser and check if the music is still playing, from this I should be able to help more.

Avast is a very trusted program, so if its up to date and everything, then that should pick up anything like that.

I wouldn't worry about the site to much at this stage for downloading a virus or anything

Thanks so much onlydean. I will run a virus check on Avast and see if it's picked anything up, and watch out for the jazzy music again! Thanks for your advice.
