We need a new TV, but oh dear me, where do we start?

Do we need Plasma? LED? LCD? What is the difference?

Please help out a simple soul ...

(have posted this in chat too Smile)

It's probably not worth worrying too much about the technology behind the TV.

What is really important is the contrast ratio (essentially the difference between black and white), the viewing angle, how big screen you want and the price you want to pay.

The easiest thing to do is to go down to a electricals store and look at a few different types of TV. Make sure you take a tape measure too, so you can try viewing the tv from your usual sitting distance and angle.

Don't be fooled into getting a huge tv - if at your normal sitting position you can distingish the individual pixels you are much too close.

Incidentally, Plasma and LED TV will tend to have better contrast ratio and viewing angles.

Well, we got a Sony LCD todaySmile

It's fabby (well, anything would be fabby compared to our 28" grey box!) but we've not managed to sort the colour out yet, arrgh.

Thanks for your help
