Freeview - No signal message

My elderly mother's TV has suddenly started showing no signal message .
Terrestial channels ok .
She has tinkered herself ( pulling leads out and putting back in ) but I've checked and can see no obvious errors .
It's possible that she's done something prior to getting this message .
I guess something may have happened to roof ariel or cable ,but any ideas ?

I had this recently... my tv lost BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 but not BBC4. It all came back again later on. So if getting that kind of a problem, it is something to do with atmospheric conditions - nothing that can be done.

Is it all FreeView channels, or just some?

gingeroots · 13/10/2010 21:47

It's all Freeview channels and there is a message on screen saying " No signal "

Cable fallen out perhaps - and now that she's had a play... maybe put the wrong cables back in? Though does not explain why terrestrial still works. Checking all cable connections would be a starting point - have you seen it in person, or only over the phone?
If terrestrial is working, then the tv aerial is still working... so more likely a box related issue. Is there a reset option on the box, so that it will attempt a full rescan?

I've had this for the last couple of days too - maybe its nationwide?

meltedmarsbars · 13/10/2010 22:46

On mine the signal level was non-existent on many of the channels. We have a signal-booster thing too.

Terrestrial was ok.

retune?

gingeroots · 14/10/2010 08:30

Thanks guys .
I have checked all the cables and they seem ok .
As regards a retune ,if there's no signal ,how could it retune ?
Maybe a reset is different ?

Disconnect the cable into the box and run a retune to clear the existing channel set up then put back in and retune again. Is the signal strength ok , maybe there is a problem with it in the area ? I find atmospherics affect can our Freeview signal but not terrestrial tv.

gingeroots · 14/10/2010 09:07

thanks ,will try that .
i don't think it's a problem with the signal strength - it says " No signal "

a retune should help it search for the signal again. mime did the same last week

gingeroots · 14/10/2010 09:22

Ok - that makes sense ,thanks .
