Problem with Firefox

I've started using Firefox because it seems much faster than my default browser, Internet Explorer. It is faster but if I put anything into google or the search facility of many websites, a pane comes up on the left hand side full of shopping results for that item or similar. I don't think I have done anything to turn this accessory on and it's bloody annoying so how can I get rid of it?

TIA

Have not seen this described before.

First off , what version of Firefox is it, please ? (In case this is some option on FF v4, which I've not used.)

Second, under View menu, in 'Side bar' is there anything ticked ? (it can be used to display history of sites you have visited, just wondering if there's something 'enabled' here which you don't want/ need)

Third, under the 'Tools' menu, in 'Add ons', can you see anything which might be for searching ?

Also, is there a chance someone else in your family has used the PC and installed Firefox, then been on a website looking for games tips, or ringtones, or other 'free' stuff, where sometimes the reason a thing is free is because it is paid for by getting user to download and install some 'extra'... that brings up advertising...

The only information I can find on the version of Firefox it might be is 3.6.8 after it - does that make sense?

There is an option for Shopper Results in the Sidebar menu but it is not ticked. I can't see anything in Tools that might be causing it. I suppose someone could have accessed a website that installed the feature for us... but how do we uninstall it or are we stuck with it forever now?

v3.6.8 makes sense (v4 is still in beta I think)...

Shopper Results sounds like the problem based on your description. I found one reference suggesting it was Malware.

I'm going to check to see whether this is listed in the add-on section of Mozilla's site.
