i'm going to the wilds of yorkshire for a week somewhere there is no provided internet access Shock.

is the thing i need a dongle?

can i get a 'pay as you go' type thing?

would it be prepaid or like a mobile and topped up as necessary?

or do i need to accept i'll be without tinternet for a week?

i am techno-stupid so explainations in words of one syllable would be good.

Yes you can get dongles (3G) - that are either PAYG or contract types, or prepaid for set amount of download etc I think.

However you need to bear in mind that any type will only be as good as the mobile signal. If you think signal might be an issue then you could be wasting money getting one.
And if you are in an area where there there is signal but not 3G then it could well be very slow.

You might need to do some research!

The postcode of the destination might help.

There are some PAYG options but brand new they are (generally) not very cheap - 20 to 50 quid for the dongle, then possibly 10 quid for 1 GB of data (depending on network).

Many top-ups are only valid for a month, though a few are for longer. If you knew you'd use it for longer, then a 3 GB/ 3 Month (stops when one of those runs out) pre-loaded SIM for Three network might be found on Ebay for under a tenner. However, no good if you have no coverage where you are going...

(I buy one now and then as a spare in case my phone line is dead - rain wipes it out for up to 5 days at a time). Typing this via Three as it rained before 6am today :(
