Why does Itunes recognise my Iphone but not my Ipod?

Was all working fine a week ago and now when I plug my Ipod Nano it just doesn't register on Itunes (or when I click on My Computer icon).

Have tried switching it off and on, plugging into different USB ports on the laptop but still no luck. It recognises my Iphone no problem so not a problem with cable or laptop.

Any suggestions?

Is the Nano otherwise OK and working correctly?

yes, BP, plays fine in dock and with headphones. Think its a 2nd generation one btw.
