Writing DVDs from Mac

Hi - we've just got a new MacBook Pro and I am copying over photos from our PC. We will wipe all of them off the PC as we'll get rid of that, and will store all photos on Mac with backup on our external hard drive. But for wedding, baby photos etc., we'd quite like to have a 3rd backup on DVDs. So how do I go about doing this with a Mac? Do I need special software or is it as simple as just copying the files onto a DVD?

The Mac should already have the software it needs on it.

One of the easiest ways to do this is with a "Burn Folder", follow the instructions here:
docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8924.html

So basically make the Burn Folder, copy the files and folders into it that you want and then click on "Burn".

If you don't want to burn a disc each time you could get Toast Titanium which is a fantastic programme that I use to burn things all the time. Portable hard drives are really cheap now and I actually find these much better for backups (and you can do the time machine thing) than putting things on DVD's.

Thanks. I'll have a go at burning, and then may decide that 2 external hard drives is easier :)
