i want to start my own blog but dont have a clue how to go about it.

i dont want it to be a crappy thing thats 1 page long, i want to do a really good one that i can add to regularly and eventually have different sections etc like a website

what do i do? how do i start off? are there programs out there for this type of thing?

You don't need a program just an account on a web site. I used to use BlogSpot.com which became blogger.com.

That was pretty easy to use and yet allowed a lot of customisation if you were into that sort of thing.

I think Wordpress is much better than Blogger personally - but with both, you hardly need to do anything to get started. Basically, just give an email address, pick a username and blog name, pick a theme, and get writing!

how do people find your blog? is it quite easy for someone to find it by searching in google or somewhere? or do you need specific access etc?

Google should just get there of it's own accord if the blog is publicly accessible. I've certainly had blogs appear on Google and I never did anything special.

It might take a while to appear but use that time to build up some content and to try and get other people to link to your blog.
