I have a spreadsheet that i am creating and I'm entering now figures on rows 66 etc. Consequently I can no longer see the column headings. I know there is a way to freeze them at the top so that i can always see them but of course, i cant remember how to do this. I'm on a Mac in case that makes a difference.

Any help gratefully received.

TIA

yes, select line below the one you want to freeze, then click 'view' then 'freeze panes'

or at the very top of the sheet on the right hand side where the column labels are there is a small bar click and pull it down it's a scroll bar.

thanks for your replies guys but I don't have a 'freeze panes' option under 'view' and I cant see a 'small bar' on the right hand side of the column labels.

Hover your mouse over the top right grey bit on the spreadsheet where it meets the grey bit below. The cursor should change from an arrow into a horizontal thingy. When it does, left click and pull it down to the level you want to fix the heading row area. Do the same at the top left grey bit where it meets the grey bit on the left and pull the cursor right to get the column you want to stay the same.

Sequins has explained it so much better! I should have opened up excel rather than using memory. I would try asking the help function although I can't think what it's called???

thanks again guys

I still couldn't see what you could see (it is a different view in Mac, not sure what you guys are looking at Excel in) but I did what I should have done in the first place and used Help! Sorry - my fault for being lazy/lacking initiative Blush. All sorted now.
