Help - I WANT...no make that NEED...an iPhone!

I give in. I want to join the crowd and get an iPhone and be cool and in control of my life at the touch of a sleek and shiny screen.

Where do I start? Do I go contract or buy one? Any idea who has good deals at the moment....

Please.

First question is how much you have to spend. PAYG requires you to shell out the full £500 in one hit (for the iPhone 4, bit less for the 3Gs). If you want it cheaper then you're looking at a contract.

None of the deals are particularly good tbh, they're all much of a muchness.

Daffodilly · 03/09/2010 19:48

Thanks for that. I think I'd want to go contract. I am with T Mobile on contract at the moment with a couple of months left to run - but I am SO fed up with poor reception and my broken handset I am willing to just start new contract elsewhere!

You MUST MUST MUST, NO ARGUMENTS, get an unlimited data contract. Otherwise you will go mad with frustration at all the interwebs out there which get way too expensive to access after the first few days in the month.

(Applies to Iphones or any other interwebby Android phones.)

catinthehat2 · 03/09/2010 20:02

This site does some good deals for non Iphone dataphones

Rockbird · 03/09/2010 20:06

I've just changed from o2 to Vodafone and I wish I hadn't. o2 are much much better, was with them for years.

All the unlimited data deals have been withdrawn, they're all capped now. The data allowance is plenty and you'll only ever go over it if you use it to stream the radio which I used to

catinthehat2 · 03/09/2010 20:14

Rocky have a look at this page for unlimited data deals.

catinthehat2 · 03/09/2010 20:14

Sorry Tmobile not O2/Voda

fluffles · 03/09/2010 20:16

i've just left tmobile for orange for reception reasons - and i'll be picking up my iphone 4g on monday Grin

can't wait!!!

mostly for the reception.. tmobile is crap outside of city centres. i've been using an itouch for about a year for everything but as a phone so i'm sure about the decision.

I felt similarly however ended up with a samsung galaxy portal, not an iphone but an android phone. I didn't understand what that meant, but basically it's the word given to all the types of phones (which aren't aren't iphones) wher eyou can "download apps" and Do Things. (The name of the platform which supports the data. Or something).

I just wanted to download apps, without even quite knowing what that meant.

But I know now, and love it. My point being, it dosn't have to be an iphone to allow you to download apps and casually touch your phone screen to control your life.

On t-mobile (I have no problems with reception) it costs £20 per month (as an upgrade).

Rockbird · 03/09/2010 20:32

The unlimited data has a fair usage policy of 1GB at the most whichever network you're on. The difference is that o2/Vodafone/Orange will tell you that, T Mobile just put it as unlimited but it's there if you read the small print.

HinnyPet · 07/09/2010 20:01

O2 online, £35 a month I think, good reception, good customer service IMHO and sexy phone.
Buy a screen protector and a flip case, then it will look beautiful for longer :)

bluefinger · 09/09/2010 20:33

I am with 3 and havve a htc hero atm. I have a contract that doesn't include data so pay £5 a month for "internet max" which is set at 3gb limit, or so the man said. Not sure if you could add this onto an iphone tariff though.

Tbh I use it most at home so use wifi anyway. I empathise with your iphone wantage, my contract is up soon and I'm agonising over what to get. SO many juicy phones upcoming, the htc hd2 looks lovely, as do the windows 7 phones. I would go for an iphone, but the whole restrictions thing puts me off. I know people rave about them, but think I would get annoyed with not even being able to put an emulator on it Confused.

BensonBunny · 14/09/2010 21:25

If you can afford the upfront cost of £350 for the phone, Tesco do a £20 per month for 12 months contract for the iphone 4. The only problem is that it's so popular that the phones are always out of stock!

It took me a month of phoning most days to get mine but I got it in the end and I love it. I have 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 1gb data for my £20.

TonariNoTotoro · 14/09/2010 21:34

nah, you need an HTC Desire. iPhones are so last season Wink

If you will have access to wifi much of the time (I do) then unlimited internet isn't so much of an issue. 500mg/1gb is more than adequate unless you're a youtube addict or something.

PrettyVacant1 · 17/09/2010 20:08

I have a Desire too.
Love it.
Get one of those. Grin
