Can you help with my iPod please? Wants to update OS but will I lose my music?

I just got an iPod touch yesterday so still getting to grips with it. It wants me to update to OS 4.02 (I think it is) but warns I may lose my media.

Does this mean all my music and pics will be wiped off - will I need to reinstall them all after the update?

It took ages to put them all on (especially as they all had to be converted) so I'd rather not have to reload it all!

Thanks in advance.

i had to rest my iphone the other week and upgrade the OS. All the research I did beforehand said to save your photo's and music to computer first.

There should also be a backup option before you start the upgrade of OS, and then after the OS is finished, you restore from the backup you created. I think when you plug it in and go for the OS upgrade, it should ask you if you want a backup, or if you right hand click on your device it's an option in there.

Thanks JeMeSouviens, I do have all the music on my laptop just in case but will look for a backup option as well!

backup! backup!

iOS updates seem to exist in one of two flavours - either it goes 100% smooth, or you have to reinstall your iPod from scratch!

Well I did it, it did a back up so saved my settings but I did have to reinstall all my music and photos. It has all gone smoothly though so far so good!
