Get an iPad.....

You get more for your money with a proper laptop. It will come with a decent screen, a DVD reader and a decent keyboard. Netbooks are great if you carry them everywhere and really need portability.

Depends on your budget.

In our local Asda Living I spotted a couple of Compaq laptop boxes on the shelves, one with a price (379) the other without (but on checking found it was 309).

However, they also had a Lenovo widescreen laptop (15.6") with 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD, and DVD drive. Price ? 299 pounds. If I had had the cash in my account I'd have bought it there and then.

One thing about the iPad that might annoy is the blocking of Flash. It's done for legitimate enough reasons (total control by Apple!) but there will undoubtedly be some websites which use Flash quite innocently and while I'm personally not a fan (I use an add-on for Firefox to block Flash from running), even the car dealership around the corner has Flash to show off their range of cars.

Either there's going to be a load of extra work for website designers to strip Flash from websites, or there are going to be lots of frustrated iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad users in a year or so, because Android (on various mobile phones, and likely before Christmas on some tablet machines, and even some model(s) of Sony TV.

ooops - because Android v2.2 (on various hardware) has Flash v10.1 as standard.
