Does anybody know if the Polaroid PoGo photo printer is compatible with my Android htc phone?

I'm about to buy the printer but it's no good if it's not going to be able to print out photos from my phone. I read somewhere that the printer is not compatible with Apple's iphone, but am not sure about the Android.

TIA

I have a Pogo - it works via bluetooth. I'm not very techy but if your phone has bluetooth then it should work?

ABitTipsy · 05/08/2010 13:12

Thanks mojo, have no idea if my phone has bluetooth, how can I find out?

Btw, how do you find the Pogo? I'm not expecting great quality prints, I just want snaps the DC's can stick in their scrapbooks about their summer holiday!

Is it the HTC Desire - that has bluetooth.

Never heard of the printer.

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 13:31

I have a Pogo, and an htc desire - can try a bit later, if you want to hold off for a bit?

the htc needs to have PictBridge technology, not just bluetooth - something to google for in the meantime?

I love the pogo -we have one for the same reason as you - holiday scrapbooks etc, and it is just fab. colour reproduction can be a little odd at times, but I still love it.

we tend to customise postcards sent form holiday too -makes relatives day to see the dds enjoying the holiday as well as hearing about it!

FindingMyMojo · 05/08/2010 14:06

I agree with silverfrog. it's good fun - great for parties when everyone can print off their own piccys etc. It does seem to edit the edges off the photos to size to fit but you get used to it.

I've probably being really thick but I cant figure out how to get pictures on my computer to print on the Pogo - I can only do it via Bluetooth? SILVER am I missing something here?

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 14:10

you can connect via cable too - can't remember if it comes with the cable, or if you use the devices' cable.

eg, haven't yet used it with shiny new htc - will do so in a bit to test it. but haveused it with my Sony camera phone - via bluetooth, and also with my Olympus camera via cable connect.

I haven't ever tried cable connect form PC - as long as PC was PictBridge compatible (form of photo software) I suppose it might be possible.

My brother sent soem stuff over from his Nokia mini-computer thing when we were on holiday, both by bluetooth and cable, I think, but he might had have to send via laptop to get the pictures in the right format...

FindingMyMojo · 05/08/2010 14:32

you know it may have come with a cable. OH is slightly OCD and tidies stuff away. He has a 'cable box' where he stuffs all kinds of random cables WITHOUT LABELLING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! Drives me nuts. It's like opening a box of snakes but not quite as pleasant. It's probably in there - I would think it had a USB type thing. I'll have fun looking for that

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 14:36

I think it doesn't (but not sure - I am the same as you OH!)

It is USB compatible, but each device has its' own connector at the other end, so i think you use whatever USB cable you have for your device, iyswim?

my Olympus has a micro-USB connector, but the Sony one is really weird. If the PoGo had come with one, it would be likely to be a micro-USB, if that helps at all?

FindingMyMojo · 05/08/2010 14:42

I don't understand - isn't the Pogo a 'device'? Id expect it to have a cable that connected to the POGO & then it connects to computer via USB? Or does Pogo have USB too - so I need a double USB cable?

Sorry this is confusing - I'm looking at Amazon reviews/specs but can't see any mention of cable, just that it is USB compitable.

Need a good shake down when I get home

OP please ignore me

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 14:53

hmm, yes, see what you mean.

will go have a quick hunt for mine, hang on.

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 14:56

right.

PoGo has a charging point, and a standard USB point.

so yes, to connect to a PC you would need a double USB, or another connector.

will now hunt down my htc cable, and check for OP whehter a desire will work with the PoGo (and then probably find out it' not a desire she's interested in! )

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 15:12

ok, back again.

according to this page the poGo won't print when connected to a PC.

and yes, OP, the PoGo does work via bluetooth with an htc Desire. I would hazard a guess, therefore that it would work with other htc camera phones. But definitely worht checking (NB, do not use the checking facility on Polaroid's pages - it didn't come up with the Desire as a compatible option, yet I have jsut printed form mine)

FindingMyMojo · 05/08/2010 16:04

Yes I remember now - this is the flaw of the POGO - once your prints are on the computer they are dead to the Pogo.

SO must print via bluetooth (though my mac has bluetooth & I couldn't use that to send pics to the Pogo) or by connecting the camera to the Pogo directly.

I recall an afternoon spent trying to get pictures off computer, back onto camera so I could print onto Pogo - ahhhhhhhhhh. Unsuccessfully.

Thanks so much SilverFrog

silverfrog · 05/08/2010 16:20

if your mac has bluetooth, couldn't you bluetooth to your phone, and then PoGo from there?

we had a few similar issues on holiday, when my brother was trying to send some stuff over to the pogo.

all to do with the pictbridge software bit, and also what format the pictures were saved in, iirc.

we had a chain set up in the end - for mhis camera to his macbook, then to my phone 9don't ask why the phones wouldn't connect - it was a mystery!) and then to the pogo.

I think it worked in the end (I do have a pic in the scrapbook that he took - can't remember the exact way we got it printed though!)

ABitTipsy · 05/08/2010 16:21

Hi all, sorry I disappeared for a while, took the DC's swimming!

Yes, I do have the htc Desire. So it will work via the bluetooth? I hope so because I have already ordered it! I couldn't wait!

If it doesn't work with my phone it will work with DD's camera so should be ok.

Am so excited, gonna take it on our hols to France with the scrapbooks!

OP posts:
silverfrog · 05/08/2010 16:24

yes, it worked fine with my Desire via bluetooth.

the pogo is so great - we do just that - take it with us and each evening write a page about the day, printing the photos as we go.

my dds are only 5 and 3, so dh & I do it for them, but they love the results (dd1 is autistic, and loves her photo books of holidays we have had)

ABitTipsy · 05/08/2010 20:02

thanks silverfrog, that's exactly what we're going to do, my DD is 7 (today!) so she will be writing about the day. DS is 4 so might need some help.

I'm so excited, have wanted one for a while but kept dithering about ordering it, it's not even that expensive, should've ordered it ages ago!

OP posts:
silverfrog · 06/08/2010 09:10

that's what made my mind up in the end - I thought, even if it doesn't work, it's only £25...

Have you seen the Jofli Bear stuff?

that's what we use for the dds - the little ring binders are lovely, and it is just the right size for PoGo pictures!
