Anyone know about grapevines?

It is true that if you thin out the crop you will generally get fewer but better fruit. However, when my parents had a vine in their garden they rarely bothered thinning and we grazed on small incredibly juicy and flavoursome grapes all late summer/early autumn. Perhaps if the bunches had been thinned the grapes would have been sweeter, or each bunch more consistent, but I don't think we suffered!
