What does this to runner beans?

I have had some leaves cut off from the plant at the stem. Leaves found on ground uneaten. It was only the odd leaf or two so I wasn't too bothered but now whatever it is has cut straight through the main stalk so one plant is effectively dead.

Other leaves have also been partially eaten but I assumed that was the work of slugs or snails and had down slug pellets.

So whatever is doing this damage? I think I have slug pellet resistant slugs, and some sort of stalk cutting pest.

Any ideas?

A rabbit?

Too high up for a rabbit. The stalk was cut off at the height of about 3 feet.

I was wondering if pigeons attack runner beans? I have netted most of my other veg, but I don't have enough netting to net the runner beans (and didn't think it was necessary anyway).
