Lawnmowers for a sloping garden

We've just bought a house with a sloping garden which is very overgrown. It is about an acre in all and we need to get a good lawnmower that can cope with the slope and all the tall grass/weeds etc. Can anyone recommend one? I'm very ignorant about lawnmowers!!!
TIA

It sounds like you'll need a petrol one. We have an ancient Mountfield one which is excellent. We are sloping and it has a bit that you press on to give you extra welly to go up the slope.

If its very overgrown, I would suggest you firstly strim it to get rid of the worst ( with a petrol strimmer ) as it wouldn't be good for any lawnmower, let alone a new one.
