Me & my pumpkin - again!

For anyone who remembers me & my total inexperience in growing anything,well i have moved the pumpkin plant outside in a huge plant pot.

It has grown quite long & thick with about 10 little bud/flowery tips.

So i have now got the bug & have dont lots of pots for the patio & am feeling really pleased with myself,we are even growing some toms also.

The problem now is,i have just been outside watering them all & i can see a slug/snail trail on the top of the soil in the pumpkin pot?

I have placed it on a wooden step & no joking the pot is so tall i really thought they wouldnt be able to get near it

It all looks ok,no bite marks anywhere but what can i do to protect it?

I will be so very p*ed off if after all my nurturing it gets eaten by bloody slugs/snails.

Can you check underneath to make sure that the slimy little horror isn't still there? Otherwise,it is slug pellets,crushed eggshells or grit around the plant-they don't like crawling over scratchy stuff.

You sound like you are doing really well with your veg growing.Once you've eaten home grown,you won't want anything else.

slug traps, cut the bottom part of a plastic bottle off and fill it with beer, they can't resist it and then drown in it!

Sounds like your pumpkins are doing well, mine are pretty small so far.
Last year I got a good few pumpkins but they all rotted off on the soil so this year I am going to put straw underneath them.

Got up this morning & no slug trails anywhere,thanks goodness!

On of the buds has flowered into a huge orange flower,i mean huge,the size of your hand.

I am going to put the pumpkins when they start growing onto slate tiles to stop them rotting underneath.
