URGENT: compost bin question

IlanaK · 13/05/2010 17:01

My gardeners have built my compost bin today. But it is nothing like I expected. I am wondering if it is ok, or whether I should ask them to alter it.

Basically, they have used railway sleepers(not real ones, but wood of a similar size). It is three sleepers high, but has wood only at the back and sides. It is totally open at the front. It is quite a large area. I had envisaged something more like a box with 4 sides.

So, is this a good idea? Do I need to ask them to change it?

They are back tomorrow so I need a quick answer!

my grandpa used to have one like that I think it made it easier to turn the compost and then when it was ready, easier to dig out and use on the garden. Maybe they could make it with a front you could remove?

Thanks for answering!

I was wondering about a removable front. What would be the advantage of this?

so that you can access it when it's all rotted down and you want to use it on the garden
