Pronouncing plant names

are my current shibolleths.

How do you pronounce them?

vur-BEE-nah

vi-BURN-um

ke-TOE-knee-aster

ko-TIE-nus

I tend to find that if you look like your way of pronouncing them is the right way, people less knowledgeable than you won't argue

(So, how do you pronounce shilbolleth exactly)

Shibolleth? As it's spelled Stress on teh second syllable.

I've always said

vur-BAY-nuh (FIL insists it's VYE-burnum)
vi-BUR-num
(Didn't even try Cotoneaster)
KOE-tin-uss

Is this regional variation, or is there a formally correct pronounciation?

I always say Ko - TEA - Nus.

Ohhh you know the names of plants i just point and say yes that one there has a blue flower about late june ect ect.. I am impressed

But what about penstemon? Or even clematis?
