Because of building work we are going to have to lose an old mature honeysuckle.Can it be saved ?

Yes you may be able to move it, but cut it back first, take enough of the rootball with it, and think about taking some cuttings as a backup.

Honeysuckle should move easily, like oceryo says dig up plenty of rootball and when you replant, pat it down well to get rid of airholes and give it a good soak to help with shock.

def take cuttings

my honeysuckle is from a friend's cutting 3 years ago and is doing really well

Thanks for all your advice.I could move it now but also in 4 weeks time which would be best?

How far back should I cut it?

Yes, the sooner the better otherwise it will have just started intense grwth which you'll be disturbing. Always best to do these things while the plant is dormant.
