Eucalyptus tree overhanging next doors garden

Got a quote to get it chopped back as it is really getting out of hand and the chappie told me £500.

Was watching Watchdog last night and some guy was pulled up for ripping people off charging roughly the same price.

Does anyone know rough costs for this tpe of thing. and also what is the deal with it hanging over next door? Presumably tree surgeon would need to access their property to chop it back?

If it bothers them, let them cut it back.

Think you are being ripped off, unless the tree is in a tricky place and you are in central London?

FWIW I paid £400 a while ago (in Essex) for a willow tree that had half lost its top half to have the broken bit lopped (and it was actually in the river at the time) and a full grown poplar tree taken out entirely and the roots ground out, all timber and debris removed and usable bits of tree left chopped up for us to burn. Took two men one full day to do this

How long will it take your man/men to deal with your tree?

Get 2 more quotes

no am in west sussex. it looks like quite a straight forward job (obviously have no tree surgeon experience whatsoever) only tricky bit is going in next doors if they will let us.

will get some more quotes.

dp is threatening to get up their with a chainsaw with me holding ladder. vaguely remember woman getting decapitated this way so am not keen.

Sounds way over priced to me (am in South east too). We had two trees taken out, various others cut back, hedge thinned etc all for £200.

hotcrossbunny can i have the name of your chap and is he anywhere near me - i'm in horsham?

www.trees.org.uk/treeservices.php after Watchdog too. They should be able to recommend someone.

Far too much. I do agree that your neighbours could arrange this, would be easier, and share costs with you?

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 23/04/2010 20:54

Too much. Our tree surgeons (x2) charge about £350 per day.

GrendelsMum · 23/04/2010 21:52

How large is it? Could you not do it yourself? I'm planning to take down a eucalyptus myself, one spare evening...

Sorry just spotted this. His name was Anthony Aslett, I don't know if he comes as far as you tbh. I've been searching for his number, but I'm sure if you google him, you'll find him. HTH.
