Why is my pond weed dying/will it kill everything else?

I have a little half-barrel pond on my balcony, which I planted up with pond weed (elodea crispa, I think), bog arum, an iris and a mini water lily (all of which have roots only just underwater), and some reeds, which are submerged about 6-8 inches down. They've all been in there about 2 months and all are growing nicely, except the pondweed, which seems to be dying. If I touch it it comes to pieces and although there are some new, green shoots, much of it is brownish. There's also greenish slime (yuk) growing on the edges of the pond. I'm worried this will make everything else rot and die?

Also, what might I be doing wrong?

(Btw, didn't know this section was here, just found it )
