Safe fertiliser to use

I was going to fertilise my flowerbeds with fish blood and bone, but DD (aged 3)is going through a disconcerting phase of eating soil / lying down on the flowerbeds at the mo, every time I turn my back (she thinks she is a worm... )

There's a warning on the fish blood and bone box to say not to use around livestock, and although DD is not livestock ( ), I assume the warning is there because they are likely to injest the stuff.

Anyone else with soil-munching DCs? What do use to fertilise your plants?

dogs will eat FBB, ive never seen one get ill yet.........after all, its just ground dried fish, blood and bone............

Manure. (in fact I've just done it this morning)

They don't eat that - only dogs do!

I wouldn't put it past DD to eat manure...

at manure eating DD! I'm pretty sure mine would be tempted too, she has ingested most of the compost from the potato bags already!!! I went with the FBB in my raised beds as at least its 'natural'. For feeding we use 'worm pee' from our wormery and I have caught her trying to drink that - YUK!!!

Thanks for the advice. BTW, I bought the box of fish blood and bone a year ago. Haven't opened it yet, but wondering if it would still be OK to use if I bought it so long ago?

I think I need to sort out a wormery - DD is obsessed with worms at the moment. Mind you, it's an uphill battle to teach her that turning a big worm into "lots of baby worms Mummy!" isn't a kind thing to do...

I've just had to buy a new box of FBB as we were using up DH's deceased grandparents' old stock ( we live in their house ) - I think its from the 1990's. Tis great stuff.

Its dried, so imagine it lasts ages.

We only use FBB, manure, compost, tomato feed and toprose as I'm scared of anything else.
