Tips on effective garden screening

We live in a terraced house. Our neighbours are lovely, but we would rather have a BBQ on our own; at present, it is effectively like living with them when we go outside as only a small fence - less than 1m separates our raised decked areas.

We are selling our house, and we are going to say that we need to put up screen because feedback has been that garden is too overlooked. (little white lie, but probably true)

We cannot put an actual fence in because the fence posts stop where the existing fence stops as the decked area is raised very high (its actually a 6ft fence with 1 m peeping over the top).

Something natural, but thick and not see through that will last through the winter weather.

Thanks for any advice, I am useless at these things.

you can get that stuff on a roll, like bamboo/wicker panels which you staple to your exsiting fence. its not the most long lasting solution but would tide you over until you sell

I have been looking on line - I like

but it is out of stock... I need it quicker than this.

dont know stock levels but this was the kind of thing I meant

Yes, that's the type of thing I was thinking. I like the one thats out of stock because it looks sturdy and thick - but, it is quite expensive.

I would go as cheap as you can ....you wont be there!

AlwaysMeanWellOftenWrong · 11/04/2010 11:03

well, actually, I am expecting to be here a long time... the houses round here are not selling at all quickly. We are desperate to move, one of the main reasons is we want privacy, so I am willing to pay a little bit more to get a little bit more privacy!!

Even if it just lasts this summer, it will be money well spent. As soon as the nice weather comes, I get all stressed every time I go outside because a family of four stand at the fence and talk to me every time! They are literally outside, every night! The odd chat at the front door I can do, they are lovely, but... I just want to be alone!

we did that last year..our fence panels were 5 ft high so we could see into our neighbours house etc. We put up 6 ft panels and what a difference. BUT we only has 5 ft high posts as well. The gap in between the panels is fine

You can buy bamboo/willow/reed screening from B&Q and Homebase as well as on-line.

This looks quite good
