Dividing pinks (Dianthus)- help!

How to? I know that ideally one should take cuttings and root in sand/gravel etc etc but it's too late for that(Isn't it???)- any chance I can divide a huge clump of Mrs Simkins and they will survive?

No it's not too late - they root like weeds! I'd do both - take some cuttings and them give the clump a hack. You'll probably get better results from the cuttings.
