Avacado question?

Does anyone know if you can plant an avacado stone and have any chance of it growing, my little boy keeps asking and I love the idea.

I have just seen this site with some really good presents for gardeners, I got my Mum one of the Celia Birtwell Aprons for Mother's Day and she loves it. Cute Gruffalo bits too.

I remember my dad planting an avocado stone when I was young. We got leaves but I don't think it ever bore fruit.
Thinking about it he didn't plant it in soil, he suspended it in water as I remember cocktail sticks sticking out of the side.
It was 40 years ago, so forgive my mememory

Ha ha, it sounds like an experiment of some sort. Will investigate further!

Thanks

Hi Kellunga - I have literally just done the same thing and found this step by step guide on how to grow an avocado really useful.

Hope this helps. Sarah

My dad did have green fingers and he had an allotment for many years. He did like to experiment as well and was always grafting different plants together.

I tried the cocktail stick thing and nothing happened at all! I dare say I had a dodgy seed ha ha! I was reading in a magazine the other day about this actually, the person just planted the thing iirc and now has a large plant! Could get two stones and try each way?
