is it too late for tulips?

that's it really... my question is whether it is too late to plant tulip bulbs? I know I should have been more organised before Christmas but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Funny how a little sunshine makes everything fall in to place .

That's my question too - I just got given some bulbs ... but I'm pretty sure it's too late to plant them?

Yes too late now for this year. They should have gone in last September/October.
I'm not sure what would happen if you put them in now. They would grow of course and may flower but not sure when they will die back to get ready for next year.
I would plant them anyway!

Our builder is a keen gardener and I was discussing this with him last month as I found a stray packet.

He said although the traditional time to plant is Nov, after the first frost, he has planted as late as Feb before and they have flowered same year.

I would give it a go.

You might be lucky if they are late flowering- ie May- but Nov/Dec/Jan is really the latest.

thanks for your responses... I thought it may be too late but they are still selling bulbs in the shops so I wondered. I might wait and pick up some early flowers in the market / car boot.
