... they come up such a long time after planting them that they always seem like a delicious present from myself in autumn to myself in spring. I can never quite remember what I've planted, and they come up, and I'm so excited to see them all. And I'm always amazed at my hard work in autumn. Right at the moment, the garden is sprinkled all over with little egg-yolk yellow crocuses, and it's so exciting!

When do you plant them? And what do you plant? I am a complete novice gardener and am hoping to plant some for next year.

I am a big tulip fan and they peeked out ages ago and then stopped. I have some new varieties this year so am very excited how they will look. I have a few crocus, lots of iris reticulata in pots, a few daffs ( not massive on daffs or narcissi ), lots of anemone and too many muscari - Shirley most of these you plant in the autumn, tulips from November.

Obviously summer bulbs are different ( allium, lilies etc ). I am planting nerine soon for autumn if it ever stops raining.

Roll on next month.....

I can't wait for my tulips to come into flower. I planted loads in the autumn and I can't remember what colours I chose, so it will be a pleasant surprise.

I have a fair few snowdrops out at the minute, they are lovely especially as every year there are more! They look so cheery when everything else in the garden is so bleak Tulips are pushing up now as well, and the crocuses have just started to flower. Hooray for spring!

I'm loving aconites at the moment - so lovely to see a real sprinkling of yellow all the way across the flowerbeds.
