Hi, we are getting swamped with food waste despite recycling all that we can. I heard a wormery is a great idea for disposing of food waste cooked and raw. But has anyone actually used one and can you recommend which one as there are a few different ones around.

I have a can o worms and use it for peelings, egg shells, egg boxes. It too about a year to get going well, and produces good compost. I can't get to it at present as my garden is flooded! I'm in Cork. There is someone else aroud with a dh who does worms...his eat old bills and things to avoid personality theft.

Food waste was becoming a bit of a problem in our family too. To avoid maggots etc I have been placing it all in green compostable bags from Tesco and then placing that in my recycle wheelie-bin. However, these bags are quite expensive so having read up on the benefits of a wormery I thought this would be a better idea. Bought a rather nice looking wormery from wormerystore.co.uk and we are now underway. My girls just love it, fear of wriggly worms is a thing of the past and they argue as to who gets to feed the worms! Looking forward to reaping the benefits of the resulting compost and liquid feed.
