Buying magnolia shrub help.

I want to buy a magnolia shrub for my Dad for his birthday; I know he likes the 'magnolia soulangeana' variety.

Is it worth buying this type of plant now though? Being a gardening eejit I have no idea...

Would he have to keep it indoors in a pot over the winter and then plant it out in the spring? I'm assuming too, that these sort of shrubs will pretty much look like twigs at this time of year? How do you know what you're buying then?

Help please!

You can buy Magnolias at this time of year, they will still have leaves for a few weeks yet.
Your best bet is to buy from a decent nursery and make sure the plants are labelled properly.

Autumn is a good time of year to buy shrubs and to plant as well.
If you prefer to order on-line, here is a link from a good supplier, they are very helpful and know their stuff.
