beetroot and cauliflower question

This is my first year of growing veg and I'm trying to grow stuff the dc's will eat. I planted cauliflower and beetroot plants about 2 months ago. Beetroot in pots, leaves look great but pulled one up for a look and co sign of anything rather than roots. Caulis in ground, birds love the leaves(!) how long before they get a 'middle'?. I am feeding but not as often as i prob should!

Hmmm... my beetroots [first year for me too] looked like yours then suddenly seem to be bulking up...... We must be patient....

I reckon as harvets festivals are in Sept we have a few weeks to go yet...

How big are the pots that the beetroots are in and how far apart are the plants spaced from eachother? If they are very close together, the roots won't have space to swell out.

I've been growing beets in a large trough and the roots have got to about 3-4cm in diameter so not massive but perfectly fine.

Sorry can't tell you about caulis.

Oh I should also say that the beets took about 12 weeks before I could harvest them so perhaps is also a bit early for them to be ready yet.

cheers folks, have since spotted that one of my caulis has a little white middle

My beetroots have just started bulking up and silly DH pulled them all up , and of course most of them weren't ready
We had some tonight slow-baked in the oven in foil ,and they were gorgeous.Be patient.
