Have tried (unsuccessfully) using lavender but we are in open countryside and the grass just takes over, so I need something with plenty of ground cover.

Fairly sunny, open site. Needs to be fully hardy.

Having lots of success with Lady's Mantle and geraniums. Would prefer blue/lilac/pink/white colours.

TIA

Red valerian is very hardy and will see off grass no problem.

Or a row of box hedging and then whatever you like - the box will separate the lawn from the beds without letting anything through.

hard to beat ladies mantle and geraniums to be honest. there are billions of geraniums in all those colours. Chives? make a very pretty edge. Knautia macedonica.

Thank you, ladies. Yes, I'll probably stick with my geraniums and lady's mantle - they do look really good (about the only part of my garden that does ).

Thanks for the tip about the valerian, whomoved - I shall probably slot that in somewhere, especially as it ticks another of my boxes - wildlife friendly

Thanks again.
