What is growing in my back garden?

what is this growing in our garden? It is at least 4.5ft tall going on 5ft in height. It has large leaves almost like rhubarb but doesn't look like the rhubarb we have growing else where. Any ideas?

I think it's Jacks beanstalk - just waiting for the golden eggs

it looks like perpetual spinach gone to seed...

amisuchabadmummy · 29/05/2009 18:36

or may be swiss chard.

Twims · 29/05/2009 19:42

Don't think it's Spinach as it sounds like they grow to only 30cm or so and this is nearly 5ft!! could possibly be swiss chard - but we didn't plant any!!

Looks like burdock-hard to tell from pic-but fits your description-does it have purple flowers/burrs on it?

Twims · 29/05/2009 22:18

No purple flowers or burrs

can you do a closeup of the leaves and flowers? Its really hard to tell, tbh, without those.

tbh just looks like chard or spinach gone to seed.

perpetual spinach can grow up to 5ft if its left, so can chard.

TubOfLardWithInferiorRange · 31/05/2009 16:06

I figured out that if you click on the little pictures you get a bigger picture-with a lot more definition. But I still don't know what this is and it's bugging me because I have seen this plant.
