Dandelion slaying

I have just purchased a thing that looks a bit like an apple corer to try and get the millions of dandelions that appear as if from nowhere on our lawn (every bloody day ).

It's given me lots of blisters and our lawn now has an odd 'perforated' appearance - is there an easier way of getting rid of them??????

you must have had lots, get rabbits
bung grass seed in the slots

We live near open green fields and have hundreds of danelion seeds in the air, it's driving us nuts. Corners of the garden and house (where we have windows open to air the house) have then piling up, try to hoover/dust and it just disburbs them?? Help

There must be at least forty brand new shiny yellow heads smiling up at me daily. It's driving me round the bend! Would it be advisable to snap them off at the base and paint a tiny bit of weedkiller onto the root? Or should I keep coring!

Coring is good if you can be sure you've got all the root out - otherwise they'll regenerate. Alternatively, zap them with weedkiller but that is tricky as you have (obviously) to avoid the grass.

Err, how many acres of grass have you got?

pottycock · 26/04/2009 22:56

Its a teeny tiny apology for a lawn actually! That's why it is so annoying - the more I look, the more I can see springing up. The holes I am making with this tool are dreadful!

you used to be able to buy a tumbleweed stick (like a styptic pencil) that you touched each dandy with.....

will google

SlartyBartFast · 26/04/2009 23:03

perhaps you shoudl offer them on freecycle#?

Yurtgirl · 26/04/2009 23:04

I cut the grass once a week/fortnight in summer (ours is mostly moss rather than grass so needs less cutting!)

We have heaps of dandys - my kids complain if I get rid as they think they link pretty!

My theory is at least they are growing - which is more than I can say for my gardening efforts

SuziSeis · 26/04/2009 23:13

how about this

pottycock · 26/04/2009 23:15

500 dandelions per hour?
