Good recommendations for fairly basic (kitchen) gardening books

Please could I have yours for gardening with the children on a smallish plot that we will use primarily for veg/fruit and possibly some small shrubs and plants for pretty pots by the back door?

I am imagining something like a Delia Smith for gardeners or the River Cottage Family Cookbook where you learn the basics (of cooking in this instance) as a complete novice but you get to stretch your imagination and have fun too iyswim? Just need a book with the same approach for growing as opposed to cooking!

Well not particularly for gardening with children, but I would definitely recommend any books by Joy Larkcom, especially Grow Your Own Vegetables, I would say that she is definitely to gardening as Delia is to food.

I really like Carol Klein's Grow Your Own Veg (RHS; quite cheap from The Book People IIRC)
