Hi, My very mature apple tree in the newly acquired allotment is not looking very well. When apples develop (plenty of them) they are covered in a greasy fim and have black spots all over them.. Can anyone suggest a cure for this? xx

I think cooking apples seem to naturally have that waxy, greasy skin. My parents' tree is a Bramley and they are always like this, apple underneath is great and I peel them for cooking. Theirs also get black spots but not till apples are fairly old so can't help there.

Maybe you need to replace it?
