Why aren't my potatoes doing anything?

Am having my first attempt at growing potatoes. Have placed first two potatoes in egg box on window sill, as per instructions. They've been there two weeks and nothing is happening. If anything, the tiny shoot that was coming out of one of them when I bought it is looking less healthy than it was.

Should they be doing more by now? Any hints? Too hot, too cold, too optimistic?!??

They are Charlotte salad potatoes and they are on a west-facing window sill, which is the lightest one we have.

If there is only one shoot, do you have them the right way up? Maybe the other end has more sprouts/shoots? If so, turn the potatoes over. Charlotte (my fav) usually chits well. If it was too hot, they would be sprouting like mad. As long as it's frost-free, it can't be too cold. Optimism? Hmm, they should be sprouting by now. If the turning over doesn't work, then maybe it was a duff batch, so get fresh ones. Don't worry, Charlotte can be planted well into April, and trials have shown that chitting makes no difference to the eventual crop. It just gives us something to do whilst waiting to plant!

Pretty sure they are the right way up - no shoots on the other end. Will ignore them for another week or so and resist the urge to fiddle!

Good to know that I can still get another batch later on, if these ones fail.
