Can you build a raised bed-type structure to grow veg on a patio?

I have a very big, very sunny patio type area. Most of the grass / flower bed areas in the garden are shaded by trees.

Can I build a structure on the patio to grow veg in? If so, how deep would I need to make it? The patio is monoblocked, BTW.

PS I'm chitting my potatoes, and I have containers for them. This raised bed thing is for other veg.

Yes you can, google square foot gardening which explains it.

Thanks. I've had a look, and I'm very excited.

Guess what I'll be doing at the weekend!
