Mouse in the compost!

Advice please. I have a little visitor to my compost bin (plastic with a door at the bottom). I bang the bin before openeing it so that I don't have to meet him, but would like to know if I need to persuade my mouse friend to move on (if so how?) or if he's doing no harm other than to my nerves?

How does he get in? If I were you I would block all ways of entry.
Don't suppose he's doing any harm though. Don't put cooked food in. Hope you get rid of him. We've never had mice in ours as far as I know...

Oh, we get mice in ours. We call it "McMouse" because our cats occasionally have a drive-by munching.

You should turn the compost regularly - if it's nesting in there it won't like the compost being disturbed.

I would just be happy the mouse has somewhere warm to live - if you turf it out of the compost, it may start looking for somewhere else that's cosy.

We never had mice in the house until our rabbit died - they lived in the shed where the rabbit's night-time hutch was and they seemed to get along together quite well. But when the rabbit died and the food supply dried up, they looked around for a new restaurant, and that was when I found one in my oven....
