Can you help me choose a cherry tree for a birthday present?

It's our friend's 40th on Thursday and he's really into gardening as he has a big garden. So DH thought it would be nice to get him a cherry tree. He was in the middle of looking at Crocus and then got distracted. Now he's in America and has left it to me!

I wondered if anyone knowledgable could pick a nice cherry tree for me from Crocus (pref one that bears fruit) - we can spend up to £40-£50.

Or even suggest something else? Thanks.

I'd suggest a winter flowering cherry as it flowers from November until March and will be in flower every year when its his birthday.
Its called Prunus subhirtella 'Autumnalis', you can see details on this page
