Help - any suggestions other than pansies - or more helpfully things that can go with pansies

Thanks

Cyclamen
Ornamental cabbages
Ornamental peppers
Probably could get away with a late fuchsia.

Choose red colours and they'll look good in the run up to Xmas.

I know this is probably a stupid question but what do ornamental peppers look like?

Little versions of the big things. You can also get big edible ones but I thought they might be a but large for a basket. Solanum (winter cherry) looks really nice too this time of year, but I didn't list it, because I think the fruits might be poisonous, and I didn't know if the kids would have access to the basket.

PS They need protecting from the frost. I have managed to keep them going way past July despite what this article says.

How about some bulbs - daffs or tulips - so that you have something upright to offset the floppiness of the pansies?

Bienchen · 06/11/2008 12:35

primulas, small trailing ivy?

Pannacotta · 06/11/2008 15:25

Ivy, Skimmia (small evergreen shrub good for pots, nice leaves/flowers), cyclamen

PrimulaVeris · 07/11/2008 12:08

Primulas

They'll last through to spring

Solanum and cyclamens look good now to Christmas but will flop by January

Lavender is often a good foil to pansies and will last for 3 years plus in a tub

gingertabby · 21/11/2008 23:09

holly?
