Caring for my bougainvillea during winter

Morning all. I have a beautiful Bouganvillea that I am aware cannot cope with cold/frost. Am I better to buy a frost cover for it and leave it in the garden (it is potted) or should I just bring it in. I was going to bring it in but I'm concerned about how to care for it inside, what I can put the pot on etc so it doesn't ruin the carpet. Should I leave it as it is or prune it right back, it's so beautiful and I really don't want to kill it. I've really enjoyed my garden this year but I'm a total novice so learning as I go.

Any tips re the bouganvillea? Thanks all :)

You can't leave it outside, it isn't hardy and can't even cope with temperatures below about 10 degrees. There's information on the RHS website about caring for this plant, which should be of help to you.

Is there such a thing as plant tax? Would love to see it.

I want to grow one so badly

Depending on where you are in the country if it’s too cold and damp it won’t survive.
I bring mine into an unheated conservatory, it drops its leaves and looks dead but is very much alive.
I keep it dry so it goes into a sort of hibernation and then comes back to life in the spring and goes back out into the garden in the summer.
I sit the pot in a plastic dish to protect the floor.

Thank you. Do you water it at all or just leave it completely dry? I’m thinking if either my spare room or against the wall on my decking out of the wind in a frost cover. Do you prune it back or just bring it in as it is?

It is beautiful, thanks for sharing - would be interested to know how you get on over winter - hope you find something that works to keep it growing

I don’t water it at all just leave it dry.
Mine has already dropped most of its leaves and is now indoors against the house wall of the conservatory as it’s petty cold in there.
I prune the long leggy stems so it’s back to a more manageable bush shape.
A cold spare room would be ideal!

I had no idea bouganvilleas grew in the UK! I grew up in a country where they grew wild and they were beautiful although they always had massive spiders about the size of your head living in them so I never grew one myself -

Sorry, no help with your questions, I've just never seen one here
