Where to Put Stepping Stones

I’m really tired of stepping on or crushing plants in this deep border.

Where would you put them and how many would you use?

I would place them roughly central to the bed (depth wise) with a slight random pattern and within stepping distance of each other so you can use them as a bridge/path. This will make them look like natural decorative features. If you can make them different sizes/shapes even better.

The plants that you have stepped on or crushed the most? Replant them and put your stepping stones where they were 😉

Lay them on the top of the soil in several places and leave them there until you decide whether they are in the right places or not. They do need to be within stepping distance of one another too.

Once you have made your mind up you can then sink them in flush.

If I do this I can’t put any plants in. Wish I’d got the stones before I put plants in the bed as I’d cleared it.

Judging by the plants you've got there this looks like a shady bed. I've something similar with ferns and hostas and put a winding bark path through there. Softer looking, more flexible, easier to lay in a meandering fashion and, if you've not already bought the stones cheaper too.

From the worn bit of the lawn I'd start a wee path there then take it around so you can, if you wish, step up/down from the raised bit on the left.
