Garden tool recs for bad back

Wondering if any of you seasoned gardeners know of tools which will enable me to stand and weed, rather than kneel.

It’s something I’m working on (the back issue), but it’s really putting me off gardening when I know that I’ll have rotten lower back pain for days afterwards.

I definitely need to work on strength and mobility (and I am), but I’m hoping there might be some reliable alternatives to the trusty Japanese knife, which works brilliantly but does necessitate kneeling down. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Following for ideas as i cant kneel and also have a back problem. I use a hoe or long handled small fork but nothing works really well, hence a very weedy garden!

This is excellent for lifting weeds while standing up.👍

Edit. Photo did not download, will try again.

Can I guide you to my post in this thread @Agoddessonamountaintop , save me typing it all out again.

A tool I also find invaluable is my Fiskars three pronged, long handled cultivator. I bought it many years ago and have tried to find one more recently but can't. The good thing about the one I've got is that all the prongs are level so it's great for lifting things whereas the ones with a protruding middle prong wouldn't work.

If you still want to get your fingers in the soil and if you're able, you could lift (put your fork into position, push it down with your leg, sideways - watch your foot doesn't slip! - maybe using something to support your other side, then lift into a trug with the cultivator or rake) a clump of what you need to work on and lift it to a height that suits you then take out the weeds and put the soil back.

It all takes so much longer than if you can get in about it on your knees but it's still satisfying and gets us outside to move about it ways we might not otherwise. I hope your back improves @Agoddessonamountaintop Flowers

Thanks all - sorry my internet disappeared for a bit! @UprightGardener will have a look at those, I like the sound of interchangeable tools. I’ve come across the Fiskar one before but there seem to be mixed reviews on it; afair the ones you can get now are cheap rip-offs. It does look handy though.
I’ve made it sound as if I’m really struggling but I’m not - my back just seems to have become vulnerable to certain activities. Pruning isn’t a problem as DH is quite willing to help with a good old hack but I’d never get him to weed. I think he was forced to help his dad as a boy and that was enough gardening for his lifetime!

I think I’ll try the WG weeding knife and one of these: www.worldofwolf.co.uk/wolf-garten-multi-change-weed-extractor-4cm-iwm

I've got that weed extractor @Agoddessonamountaintop and have found it'll often cut the root of a dandelion or dock. I find my weeding knife more effective - I put it down the side of the root and lever it, the root, up and then pick it up with my grabber to deal with at standing height. If you get them young enough you can get the whole root and sometimes the weather will help get a whole one out but I've not worked out whether wet or dry works out better - must take notes!

Nothing gives me greater pleasure than weeding on my hands and knees, it's a rare event nowadays. It's a shame your DH doesn't enjoy it.

That’s helpful to know, thanks @UprightGardener . Hopefully that weeding knife will do the job as well as my beloved hori hori.
I can’t complain about DH’s lack of interest in the garden; there’s always loads of jobs and decorating to do in our house which I avoid like the plague but he gets on and does!
