Has anybody managed to grow a Munstead Wood Rose successfully?

I am a rose addict and would really love a Munstead Wood but am put off by the warnings about diseases.

Many of my current selection of roses seem prone to blimmin black spot and various other nasties from time to time.

Quite a few of them are supposedly “disease resistant” but apart from the very tough and reliable Princess Anne nobody seems to have told the roses that.

Is Munstead Wood really any worse?

Where have you found Munstead Wood for sale? Please share the link/site name I've been searching for it since I left mine behind when I moved house and found David Austin had discontinued it. It grew fine for me, I grew it for about 14 years, it's absolutely beautiful and smells incredible, the most intense rose perfume I've found. The blooms are too big and heavy for the plant but you can easily prop it up with supports. It may have got a bit of black spot but I don't pay much attention to that as I garden organically and everything has a bit of something.

@ConflictofInterest
David Austin sells them on and off, not available at the moment but was on sale a few months ago and I am told will be available again.
My question was theoretical so that I can pounce and buy one in the next batch release if it sounds a good idea.
Very pleased to hear you managed to grow it.

I have a very well established one that flowers its socks off every year - it is flowering now and you can smell it for yards around. No noticeable disease. Seems very tough and resilient.

I know they stopped selling it because the stock got virus which may be where it got its reputation as being a bit tricky, but mine is rock solid and one of my favourite plants of all.

@LadyGardenersQuestionTime that is very useful information, thank you.

I will be ordering one as soon as the next batch are on sale.

I’m hoping to get one at the next release. I got Darcey Bussell and Alnwick this year instead as MW had sold out so quickly earlier this year. If I miss it again this autumn my plan is to see if I can find anyone with it which will swap cuttings for some of my rooted cuttings.

Hate all the discontinuing roses. I really want to replace the Crocus rose I had in last garden. I’d have dug it up if I had realised I couldn’t get it again. A very kind person is currently trying to propagate his and we are planning a cutting swap.
