Can I cut back an overgrown fuchsia in autumn?

I have a fuschia out the front which goes wild every year. I cut it so far back last year and it’s still managed to get taller than my front windows this year!

I tried google … which says only cut back late winter.

I don’t think I could kill the thing off if I tried, will cutting it back just to be less wild really cause much damage in autumn?

We've cut ours back today as its grown so large I get soaking wet getting in and out of the car, will be sad if it does die, but a chance I've got to take
We normally do it a bit later in the year, definitely autumn, and it's always survived

Ah that’s really helpful. Thanks!
