Shrew, Bumble bee or Funnelweb?

What made this hole in the remains of my lawn?

Slightly oval, nearly an inch long. Grass stems were brushed away from the upper one so it was visible, the lower one was concealed by tangled grass.

I don't know about funnelwebs (I don't even want to think about them, to be honest), but I had a similar hole appear in my lawn last year which I put down to shrews. This was further evidenced by the half-chewed shrew carefully placed in the conservatory by one of the cats.
This year I noticed a lot more bumblebees, and they were actually nesting in this hole. I believe that bees will repurpose existing holes when they're looking for nesting places in the spring, so I was pleased that I'm a lazy gardener and didn't fill it in!

I'd say bumblebee, I have similar ones in my garden and they're definitely solitary bee nests.

There are ground-nesting bees, but they are mining bees not bumble bees. Unless you are in Australia it won't be a funnelweb spider. Doesn't look much like a hole made by a shrew either. Have you poked a stick down it?

I do have slow worms, but they are usually in compost or leaf litter.

I thought this was the baby names board for a second.
